SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy associated with increased risk of adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes

CITF-funded researcher Dr. Deborah Money, from the University of British Columbia, and the CANCOVID-Preg team published a study in JAMA, observing that SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy was significantly associated with an increased risk of adverse maternal outcomes and preterm births in those who were unvaccinated.

Canadian study shows no significant association between COVID-19 vaccination and adverse peripartum outcomes

In a paper published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), CITF-funded researchers Drs. Deshayne Fell and Kumanan Wilson of the University of Ottawa and Dr. Jeffrey Kwong from the University of Toronto and colleagues found that COVID-19 vaccination was not significantly associated with an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Safety of COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy: A Canadian National Vaccine Safety (CANVAS) Network study

A pre-print, not yet peer-reviewed, from the CANVAS Network, by Drs. Julie Bettinger and Manish Sadarangani from the University of British Columbia and their colleagues explored the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in pregnancy among 15-49-year-olds and compared them to an unvaccinated control group, including unvaccinated pregnant people.

The COVENANT Study: COVID-19 cohort studies people experiencing homelessness in Toronto

COVID-19 vaccine coverage among pregnant individuals in Ontario

Incarcerated individuals face an increased risk of acquiring COVID-19

Congregate settings (such as prisons, long-term care homes) have provided opportunities for COVID-19 to flourish. As part of her CITF-funded work recently released in a Lancet preprint, therefore not yet peer reviewed, Dr. Nadine Kronfli from the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre found that the number of incarcerated men at three provincial prisons in Quebec with antibodies due to a SARS-CoV-2 infection was two times higher than among nonvaccinated individuals in the Montreal area.
